A home birth with a certified midwife can be very peaceful, and the way you want it often, without the risk that an unassisted birth carries. I had two unassisted births myself, and two with care providers, all out of the hospital and none of them were "paid pessimists". A care provider that is trained to know how to handle a circumstance out of the hospital will know more what to look for. Be wise, use caution and make sure that you do not have another traumatic experience out of the hospital as well! All I get from this article is: be on the lookout for hemorrhage, don't try to give birth unassisted if the baby is breech, and go to the hospital sooner rather than later if things start to go wrong. OK, will do. It's still worth it, to me, to leave the "paid pessimists" out of it unless there is a medical emergency. I've had some fairly traumatic experiences with normal hospital births that I don't intend to repeat, if I can avoid it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3784365588911553828.post-63479275608306706992013-06-01T17:28:46.990-07:002013-06-01T17:28:46.990-07:00I really enjoyed this post, very helpful since I&#...I really enjoyed this post, very helpful since I'm hoping this one (my fourth) will be my first fully unmedicated birth. The first time: 19 hours of labor, no meds. The second: 3 hours (with an epidural that time). The doula was worth every penny, even though she didn't have as much to do the second time around!

We also sent a letter to our insurance company, pointing out that having a doula there at my son's birth meant that we saved them a ton of money, that I would have certainly had the epidural otherwise. Too bad that most insurers can't help patients cover the cost of hiring a doula!

Sarah @ Baby Bilingualhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13907207816628137938noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3784365588911553828.post-11974315605056868362013-02-05T22:49:51.263-08:002013-02-05T22:49:51.263-08:00Thanks for this post. You know--labor!) that it just made SENSE (TO ME) to cut me open and gently remove the baby. Logically, I KNOW this isn't as simple as I'm making it, but it made sense to me when I was waddling around and feeling horrible! Anyway, I joked about it with my doctor and he adamantly stated that it wasn't a good idea for the baby and that the baby would come out when the baby was READY to come out--not when I was ready for the baby to come out. At the time, I seemed to be the only one NOT scheduling one, so if he hadn't explained it all to me I may have insisted on one. I liked this article--it reminded me of my friend's sister who had her baby at maybe 36 weeks because she wanted to avoid gaining the weight in the last month! The comment that the one lady made about convenience and not having control killed me! Is ANY of this in our control? And haven't women been having babies for centuries without being in control? I get her point to a certain degree, but REALLY, lady?! (Of course, it's okay that I wanted to have surgery instead of having my babies the way women have been doing it for centuries because I'm judging OTHERS today. TOMORROW I will judge myself...;o))Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03085275382498597298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3784365588911553828.post-36557184260829649632011-09-17T14:33:08.424-07:002011-09-17T14:33:08.424-07:00This is very good and encouraging for pregnant wom...This is very good and encouraging for pregnant women!
